Ten Questions 009 – Yo-Hello

Yo-Hello is name of the website James Nelson uses as, in his own words ‘an entity for dumping output from my brain into the world.’ The output of James’ brain involves experiments with typography, shape, composition, screenprinting and colour. The forms and images he creates are complex, multi-layered pieces which often form the basis of the work at his ‘day job’ – part of the design team at Research Studios, headed up by Neville Brody.

James was kind enough to take some time out to answer our Ten Questions.

Talk of the Neville

Neville Brody is one of the most influential graphic designers of the last 30 years. His groundbreaking work for The Face magazine in the eighties played a key role in the development of British Graphic design and, for many, showed the possibilities of what a creative mind could achieve with words and images. After his role as art director of the magazine from 1981 – 86 he founded his own agency, Research Studios, and has gone on to grow rather impressive client list. Redesigning The Times newspaper and the BBC website – not bad work if you can get it. If that wasn’t enough, in March this year The Royal College of Art announced that Brody was to head up their Communication Art and Design course.

Ten Questions 008 – Hellovon

Hellovon is the name of the London based illustration studio run by Von. Since 2006, Von has been churning out distinctive, beautiful illustrations for a great client list including Nike, Liberty, Glenfiddich, Ministry of Sound and Habitat. His appeared in a number of publications including Creative Review, Dazed and Confused, Rolling Stone and Playboy.

He was kind enough to answer our Ten Questions.
