Five Things 012

April 15th, 2011 by Mat Dolphin

Once again we’re back with Five Things. Our regular selection of interesting bits and pieces we’ve come across over the course of the last week. We have another mixed bag of creative stuff for your perusal (as well as a shameless bit of self promotion…). Enjoy.

First up, Energie Naturelle. The latest ad from Tropicana shows the power of oranges can light a billboard. We’re not completely sure if this proves anything conclusive or will actually encourage anyone to drink Tropicana, but it’s original, shot beautifully and has the obligatory annoying soundtrack (Sparks by Nervous Norvus). The ad was shot by Johnny Hardstaff for DDB Paris.

For Nihon is a compilation of electronic and ambient music, the double CD is on sale now and the download will be available very shortly. 100% of the profits will go to the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund – so go and buy one NOW. The website promoting the compilation features the music from the album activating sound-sensitive dots which hypnotically pulse in time to the music. You can interact with the circles by moving your cursor around the screen to create your own shapes and forms. Beautiful and quite a captivating way to waste five minutes (but don’t forget to do your bit and buy a copy before you get too entranced…)

Voices of Youth is a charity set up by Unicef in 1995. Their aim is to allow 10-25 year old’s a platform to voice their often unheard opinions and find out more about social, political, environmental and human rights issues. Brooklyn-based Hyperakt were recently commissioned to give the brand identity and much needed refresh. To do this they created an adaptable logo which uses a speech bubble in an interesting typographic treatment, alongside a great set of icons. The result is a playful, bold and brilliant looking identity. We like it a lot.

1stAveMachine created the latest ad for the HTC sensation, using what they call a ’sound sculpture’ to represent the different multimedia faces of the phone. The ad shows the phone emerging from an explosion of beauty and colour which apparently symbolises the phones flexibility to take any shape according to the users demands. Whatever they’re trying to do, the ad looks amazing.

The Studio is a ‘Digital Art Store’ set up by Sony Playstation and creative digital agency Studio Output. The store will bring the worlds of video gaming and art closer together by offering original digital artwork by a number of hand picked artists, designers and illustrators. The selection currently includes Mr.Bingo, Anthony Burrill, Jasper Goodall and rexbox amongst others, with Tom Hingston Studio and Tomato lined up to contribute their own efforts very soon. Users will be able to download bespoke digital themes which integrate with the Playstation interface. Find out more here.

Now, we’re not ones for shouting too much about own work on the blog, but as we’ve just received this back from the printers looking great, we thought we’d give it a mention. Our London Tube Map of Music is a personal project, mapping the daily Mat Dolphin playlist into the form of Harry Beck’s iconic design. A random and varied selection of some of what we listen to at Mat Dolphin HQ. Check out who’s playing on your stop or listen to your commute to work (and yes, we listen the The Carpenters. Get over it)

As always, thanks for reading and check back for more goodness coming soon.

Thanks

Mat
