Five Things 011

February 1st, 2011 by Mat Dolphin

Five Things is back, the first installment in the series this year takes a look at some of the creative goodness we’ve seen over the last week. Covering film, photography, advertising, printing and erm… eggs, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Dive in and check out what we’ve been looking at.

First up the ever-reliable Wieden & Kennedy create a great ad for Lurpak, seemingly not the most exciting of clients. They’ve done an amazing job of injecting some drama into an everyday kitchen task through the use of beautful photography, direction and lighting. Never before has an omelette looked so epic…

The legendary Moleskine notebook is something many designers always keep within grabbing distance. The format which has been perfected over the course of many years is perfect for scribbling notes, ideas and sketches. Director Alvise Tedesco has recently produced this clip detailing the process of screen printing the cover. Beautifully shot, the short piece features a soundtrack by Kevin MacLeod and provides a nice two-minutes of relaxtation in the midst of a hectic day.

From earlier efforts such as ‘A Room for Romeo Brass‘ and the excellent ‘Dead Man’s Shoes‘, Shane Meadows has gone on the become best known for directing one of the best British feature films of recent times with ‘This Is England‘. The four-part TV follow up – This Is England ‘86 – was equally brilliant and it has now been confirmed that Meadows is to produce the next installment in the saga. A one off special called This Is England ‘88 will be a Christmas special at the end of this year. Can’t wait.

Beastie Boys feature heavily in the rotation of  our office soundtrack. We’ve been fans since day one and still love them now. Adam Yauch from the group has been getting more involved with film making of late and his latest writing and directorial project is ‘Fight For Your Right Revisited’ – a short film that has been showing at Sundance. It tells the Beastie Boys story and features a cast list including… deep breath… Seth Rogen, Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, John C Reilly, Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Susan Sarandon,Ted Danson, Roman Coppola, Alicia Silverstone, Chloë  Sevigny, Kirsten Dunst and the boys themselves. Find out more about the film and see the rest of the cast here.

We love a bit of tilt shift photography and found a great little stash of it here. The examples are plucked from various different sites and the subject matter varies but the results always look great.

That’s all for now dear readers, we’ll be back with more nice things for you to look at. We’ll be back soon and, as ever, feel free get in touch if there’s anything you’d like to share.

Thanks

Mat
